Basketball Recap: Jalen Yim and Chase Brito Secure Win for Irvine

Irvine proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 24) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the San Juan Hills Stallions 58-56. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vaqueros have posted since February 3rd.

Leading Irvine to victory were Chase Brito and Jalen Yim. Brito dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards, while Yim posted 18 points and seven rebounds. What's more, Yim posted four assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Holden Stearns, who earned 15 points and six boards.

Irvine's victory bumped their record up to 2-1. As for San Juan Hills, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, Irvine won't have much time to rest: their next game is against El Dorado at 11:40 a.m. on Saturday. The Vaqueros will need to watch out since the Golden Hawks have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for San Juan Hills, they will face off against Otay Ranch at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
