Softball Recap: Wamogo Regional Warriors vs. Housatonic Mountaineers

Wamogo Regional was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 25-4 walloping at the hands of the Housatonic Mountaineers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Wamogo Regional of the 12-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Shea Higgins was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a stolen base, and a run. Higgins is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's stolen at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

On Housatonic's side, Anne Moran was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Moran was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and a stolen base.

In other batting news, Housatonic let Diana Portillo and Hadley Casey loose on the outfield. Portillo scored five runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Casey went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby White, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Wamogo Regional's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Housatonic, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Wamogo Regional will head out on the road to take on New Milford at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Housatonic, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Wamogo Regional at 4:15 p.m. on May 1st.
