Basketball Recap: Mount Olive Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Gerkiera Youngblood and Ziyah Carter

Mount Olive lost against Puckett back in December of 2016 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Pirates came up short against the Wolves, falling 62-37. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mount Olive's loss came despite strong showings from Ziyah Carter and Gerkiera Youngblood. Carter shot 47% from the field to rack up 21 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals, while Youngblood posted ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. Carter is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Caili McAfee had another great game (as she tends to do), dropping a double-double with 25 points and 14 boards for Puckett. Brooke Shivers was another key player, putting up 19 points and five steals.

Mount Olive's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Puckett, they pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mount Olive will challenge Taylorsville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Puckett, they will take on Stringer at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
