Basketball Recap: Collin Meagher's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Canterbury over Venice

Canterbury was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. 2025 welcomed they with a 71-47 loss courtesy of the Venice Indians. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 67-41 back in November of 2024.

Canterbury lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Collin Meagher, who posted 11 points. Brayden Grossenbaugh was another key player, putting up nine points.

Venice's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zeke Settles, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 17 points and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcel Fil, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

Canterbury's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Venice, they moved to 6-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Canterbury didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 69-67 loss against Bayshore on the 3rd. As for Venice, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 71-69 win against Bradenton Christian on the 3rd.
