Softball Game Preview: Lincoln Mustangs vs. El Camino Colts

The Lincoln Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the El Camino Colts at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lincoln is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Lincoln turned things around against Mission on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bears a 16-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Lincoln got a massive performance out of Anjali Evans, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Evans is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brienna Tsui, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, El Camino lost 23-1 to Terra Nova on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Colts in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost seven in a row.

Lincoln's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for El Camino, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.

El Camino's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Lincoln has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for El Camino, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.6 strikeouts. Will Lincoln keep running through batters, or will the Colts buck the trend?

Lincoln couldn't quite get it done against El Camino when the teams last played back in March as they fell 10-6. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
