Basketball Recap: Sawyer Hill's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Athens over Prairie Central

Athens was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 64-61 heartbreaker at the hands of the Prairie Central Hawks. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (56), the Warriors still had to take the loss.

Athens lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Sawyer Hill, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 19 points and four steals. What's more, he also posted a 80% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in January. James Jones was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 12-15. As for Prairie Central, their win bumped their record up to 7-19.

Athens has already played their next game, a 66-34 loss against Riverton on the 11th. Prairie Central has also already played their next match (against Bloomington Central Catholic), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
