Baseball Game Preview: Elyria Catholic Panthers vs. Benedictine Bengals

The Elyria Catholic Panthers will challenge the Benedictine Bengals at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Elyria Catholic has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

It was a proper cat-fight when Elyria Catholic challenged Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin on Monday. The Panthers lost 18-8 to the Lions. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Benedictine not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 28th (when they won 12-4). They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over Stow-Munroe Falls.

Ben Scheer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jerrold Brazelton, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Ethan Haug also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.

Benedictine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stow-Munroe Falls only posted an OBP of .333.

Elyria Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 5-18-1. As for Benedictine, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
