The Lake Highland Prep Highlanders will challenge the Freedom Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lake Highland Prep has given up an average of 16.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Having struggled with four losses in a row dating back to last season, Lake Highland Prep turned things around against Lake Buena Vista on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Vipers with a sharp 21-12 win. With that victory, the Highlanders brought their scoring average up to 8.2 runs per game.
Lake Highland Prep let Payton Angle and Alina Shaikh run wild. Angle scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances, while Shaikh scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 5-for-5. Angle also brought in three RBI, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kiley Green, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.
Lake Highland Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Freedom was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 17-0 to Dr. Phillips. The loss was just more heartbreak for the Patriots who fell 10-8 when the teams previously met back in February of 2024.
Freedom saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylin Braasch, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. Braasch has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
Lake Highland Prep's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Freedom, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Freedom's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lake Highland Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .500. It's a different story for Freedom, though, as they've only averaged .351. Will they be able to contain Lake Highland Prep's hitters?
