Baseball Game Preview: Winter Park Wildcats vs. Lewisburg Patriots

The Winter Park Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Lewisburg Patriots at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Winter Park's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Lewisburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Winter Park will head out to face Lewisburg after giving up their first home loss of the season on Thursday. Winter Park fell 11-7 to Riverdale. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Wildcats, who until this game were averaging 2.92 runs allowed.

Dylan Malave was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Hayden Montanez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Lewisburg is ranked highly in their home state and on Thursday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Clarksville. Lewisburg came out on top against Clarksville by a score of 11-8. The win was familiar territory for the Patriots, who have now won six contests in a row.

Brady Rodgers looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Andrew Hendrichovsky was a standout: he scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Caden Nelson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Lewisburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Lewisburg's record now sits at 12-2. As for Winter Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. However, it's not like Lewisburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 strikeouts.
