Softball Recap: Orange Cove Titans vs. Woodlake Tigers
It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Orange Cove ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Woodlake Tigers by a score of 8-3. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Orange Cove also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2023.
Mia Castillo spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than six innings in 11 consecutive pitching appearances.
At the plate, Star Elizondo was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Hazel Ocejo, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, a triple, and a double.
On Woodlake's side, Audrina Rodriguez put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over nine innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off only two hits. Rodriguez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Joey Huntington made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Orange Cove has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. As for Woodlake, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-2.
Orange Cove is on the road again on Monday to play Granite Hills at 4:00 p.m. Orange Cove's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Granite Hills' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
