Softball Recap: Piketon's Run of Nine Straight Wins Now Over

Piketon dropped their record down to 14-2 on Monday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Unioto Shermans by a score of 6-5. The Redstreaks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Shermans earlier this season, when they won 9-8.

Aubrey Heath was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylin Forbes, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

As for Unioto, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games.

On Unioto's side, they got a great performance from Kendal Walker as she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mackenzie Welch, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Maddie Tuttle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coincidentally, Piketon and Unioto will both be playing Southeastern the next time they take the field. The Redstreaks will host the Panthers at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Shermans will host them at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
