Volleyball Recap: Evansville Mater Dei Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Emily Kiesel and Caroline Schultheis

If Evansville Mater Dei was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Mt. Vernon on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Castle Knights on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

The final score came out to 25-21, 19-25, 25-10, 25-12.

Evansville Mater Dei's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Caroline Schultheis, who had 15 digs and two assists, and Emily Kiesel, who had seven digs and four aces. Addison Boots also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Evansville Mater Dei moved to 14-10 with that loss, which also ended their three-match winning streak. As for Castle, the victory (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 28-3.

Evansville Mater Dei and Castle should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Wildcats will take on Evansville Harrison at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (86 vs. 336). Meanwhile, Castle (ranked 16th) will meet Evansville Reitz (ranked 126th) at 12:00 p.m. on the 18th.
