Volleyball Recap: New Haven Now 7-2 over Last Nine Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Homestead, New Haven was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Columbia City Eagles by a score of 3-1. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 3-0 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

New Haven had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 27-25, 25-16, 25-15.

Miguel Piedra paced New Haven's offense, picking up 15 kills. Piedra got some help from James Htay and his 17 assists. Finally, Mason Ehrman kept New Haven's defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

Columbia City's loss came despite strong showings from Jack Banks and Tanner Friend. Banks had 17 assists and ten digs, while Friend had eight kills, five digs, and three aces. Banks is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 13 or more in each of the last four games he's played. Isaac Swanson also deserves some recognition as he had his first block of the season.

New Haven is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-10 record this season. As for Columbia City, they dropped their record down to 12-12 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

New Haven and Columbia City are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Bulldogs will face off against Fort Wayne South Side at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Haven is facing the Archers at the right time seeing as the Archers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Columbia City, they will take on Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
