Basketball Recap: Burley Takes a Loss

If Burley was feeling good fresh off their 71-48 takedown of Minico last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Burley Bobcats took a 53-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mountain Home Tigers on Thursday. The Bobcats have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Burley saw an underclassman step up: freshman Adalynn Olmos almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Ruby Taylor, who posted six points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Burley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 14 consecutive matches.

Mountain Home was led to victory by Lexi Longhurst and Juli Donez. Longhurst went 6 of 15 en route to 17 points along with five assists and five boards, while Donez shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Longhurst's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kloey Borgen, who put up nine points and five boards.

Burley's defeat dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Mountain Home, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Burley Bobcats duke it out with the Jerome Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Burley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season. As for Mountain Home, they will venture away from home to challenge Minico at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mountain Home is facing Minico at the right time seeing as Minico is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
