Baseball Recap: Kirbyville Triumphs

Kirbyville hadn't done well against Anahuac recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Wildcats came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 5-1. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Panthers on Tuesday, they had to take a 10-8 defeat.

Cooper Murphy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Luke Fussell was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Kaden Cloud was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Kirbyville's victory bumped their record up to 19-6. As for Anahuac, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-14-1 record.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Kirbyville is set to face off against their familiar foe Kountze at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 3, the Lions 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Anahuac will square off against rival Warren at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
