Baseball Recap: Baldwin-Woodville Takes a Loss

Baldwin-Woodville had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-6 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Somerset Spartans by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Blackhawks have suffered since May 16, 2024.

As for Somerset, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.

For Somerset's part, Mason Schmidt was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Schmidt has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Schmidt wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kane Donnelly, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

While Baldwin-Woodville had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
