Softball Recap: Community Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Community came tearing into Wednesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Boaz Pirates. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vikings/Viqueens have posted since March 1st.

Taylar Wessner made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mattie Maxey was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Community's win bumped their record up to 16-2-2. As for Boaz, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Community will challenge Richland at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Boaz, they will square off against Etowah at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
