Softball Game Preview: Shorecrest Scots vs. Mountlake Terrace Hawks

Shorecrest is 1-9 against Mountlake Terrace since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. Shorecrest will square off against Mountlake Terrace at 6:30 p.m. Shorecrest knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Mountlake Terrace likes a good challenge.

Shorecrest proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 20) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Sehome 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Scots have posted since April 9, 2024.

Shorecrest got a massive performance out of Lyla Ann Taing, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Riu Hanrahan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Shorecrest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .538 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Mountlake Terrace challenged Cedar Park Christian on Thursday. Mountlake Terrace came up short against Cedar Park Christian, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Hawks couldn't push the score so high this time.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mountlake Terrace fell to 2-1. As for Shorecrest, their record is now 3-0.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Shorecrest has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mountlake Terrace struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Shorecrest couldn't quite get it done against Mountlake Terrace in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can Shorecrest avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
