Basketball Recap: Letcher County Central Comes Up Short

Letcher County Central lost against Breathitt County back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The game between the Letcher County Central Cougars / Lady Cougars and the Breathitt County Bobcats didn't end well, with the Letcher County Central Cougars / Lady Cougars falling 69-55.

Breathitt County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Canaan Gross led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. What's more, Gross also racked up three blocks, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Joe Honeycutt, who posted 11 points.

Letcher County Central dropped their record down to 6-9 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.8 points per game. As for Breathitt County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Letcher County Central has already played their next contest, a 69-52 loss against Jenkins on the 31st. As for Breathitt County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-46 victory against Jackson City on the 31st.
