Baseball Game Preview: Morton Panthers vs. Poplarville Hornets

For the second straight game, Morton will face off against Poplarville. The Panthers will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the Hornets at 1:00 p.m. Morton has now lost 14 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 8.

Morton heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Thursday. They lost 9-3 to Poplarville.

For Poplarville's part, Chadwick Brown looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brown has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brock Sheppard, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Ty Keys was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Poplarville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Morton, their loss dropped their record down to 8-18.
