Football Recap: Cardinal Newman Cardinals vs. Hammond Skyhawks
Cardinal Newman was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a blow against the Hammond Skyhawks, falling 52-21. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cardinals of the 33-20 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2023.
Despite the loss, Cardinal Newman still got an impressive performance from Caleb Ford, who rushed for 255 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Ford was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 67 yards.
Andrew Turner was his usual excellent self, throwing for 270 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes, and also rushing for 48 yards and two touchdowns for Hammond. Another player making a difference was Immanuel Johnson, who rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries.
Cardinal Newman's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Hammond, the win for them keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
