Soccer Recap: Riverheads Comes Up Short

Riverheads came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 5-1 to the Staunton Storm. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Riverheads of the 1-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Riverheads' defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Staunton, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

Riverheads and Staunton should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Gladiators will take on Buffalo Gap at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (61 vs. 276). Meanwhile, Staunton (ranked 102nd) will meet Alleghany (ranked 292nd) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
