Baseball Recap: Wendell Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Wendell, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against the Declo Hornets by a score of 5-1 on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won five in a row.

Julian Ponce made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base.

Ponce wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Chip Houser, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Santos Suarez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Wendell's victory bumped their record up to 4-9-1. As for Declo, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-10.

Coming up, Wendell will look to defend their home field on Friday against Gooding at 4:00 p.m. As for Declo, they will venture away from home to take on Teton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
