Softball Game Preview: North Warren Regional Patriots vs. Notre Dame Spartans

North Warren Regional is a perfect 8-0 against Notre Dame since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Patriots will square off against the Spartans at 12:00 p.m. Notre Dame took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on North Warren Regional, who comes in off a win.

On Thursday, North Warren Regional got the win against Newton by a conclusive 11-2. Considering the Patriots have won three games by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Riley Grandin was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 6 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Carly Selesky was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Anna Haselmann was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs.

North Warren Regional always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .587. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newton only posted an OBP of .259.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Pocono Mountain West, falling 19-0.

North Warren Regional's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-6. As for Notre Dame, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

North Warren Regional took their victory against Notre Dame in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 20-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
