Preview: Columbus Grove Bulldogs vs. Carey Blue Devils
Columbus Grove is on a 11-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Carey is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Columbus Grove Bulldogs will take on the Carey Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Columbus Grove had no problem doing just that on Friday. They really took it to Black River for the full four quarters, racking up a 34-6 victory at home. Given Columbus Grove's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while Black River is ranked 369th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Columbus Grove's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Trenton Barraza, who gained 142 total yards and two touchdowns, and Landon Best, who rushed for 96 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Barraza is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last eight games he's played.
Meanwhile, Carey never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Columbia 48-0 at home.
Their wins bumped Columbus Grove to 10-2 and Carey to 11-2.
Columbus Grove strolled past Carey in their previous meeting back in November of 2018 by a score of 21-7. Does Columbus Grove have another victory up their sleeve, or will Carey turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
