Baseball Recap: Tavares Find Success

Tavares won the last time they faced First Academy and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 10-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Kyle Dunn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. He is becoming a predictor of Tavares' success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-11 when he doesn't). Dunn was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February.

In other batting news, Calvin Hinckley and Jamarcus Pugh did most of the damage at the plate: Hinckley scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Pugh scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Tavares is undefeated when Hinckley posts two or more runs, but 3-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeruel Rivera-Torres, who scored a run and stole two bases.

Tavares always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Tavares' win bumped their record up to 6-12. As for First Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6.

Coming up, Tavares will venture away from home to square off against South Lake at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. First Academy will be paying especially close attention to Tavares' match: after Tavares faces off against South Lake, they'll take on First Academy again at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
