Soccer Game Preview: Southridge vs. Coral Reef

Southridge hasn't had much luck against Coral Reef recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Southridge Spartans will look to defend their home pitch against the Coral Reef Barracudas at 3:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Southridge is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to seven goals back in December of 2024, they were much more limited against MAST Academy on Tuesday. They lost 6-1 to the Makos. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 4-0.

Meanwhile, Coral Reef managed to keep up with Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) until halftime back in December of 2024, but things quickly went downhill from there. Coral Reef might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) an easy 3-0 victory. While losing is never fun, the Barracudas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 216th, while the Stallions are ranked 83rd).

Coral Reef's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-6-4. As for Southridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3-1.

Southridge suffered a grim 5-0 defeat to Coral Reef when the teams last played back in January of 2019. Can Southridge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
