Volleyball Recap: Notre Dame Falls Despite Big Games from Bre Riney and Claudia Jones

Notre Dame was the 3-0 winner over Saxony Lutheran when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Bulldogs took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crusaders on Thursday. While the Bulldogs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Crusaders 25-17 in the first set.

Notre Dame started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19.

Claudia Jones and Bre Riney certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Jones had 20 digs and four aces, while Riney had 14 digs. Jones has been hot, having also posted 21 or more assists the last five times she's played. Alex Young also deserves some recognition as she had her first digs of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Notre Dame and nudges their season record down to 11-10-2. As for Saxony Lutheran, their victory ended a three-match drought at home and bumped them up to 11-15-1.

Notre Dame has already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Mehlville on the 11th. As for Saxony Lutheran, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against Kirkwood on the 11th.
