Softball Game Preview: Huntington Park Spartans vs. Jefferson Democrats

The Huntington Park Spartans will square off against the Jefferson Democrats at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Huntington Park will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Huntington Park is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Everything went their way against CALS Early College as they made off with a 14-2 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their 14-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Jefferson made easy work of Diego Rivera on Wednesday and carried off a 12-5 victory. The Democrats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.

Valerie Echevarria made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. Echevarria was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Melanie Garcia was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. Brenda Hernandez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Jefferson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.

Huntington Park's record is now 3-15. As for Jefferson, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
