Basketball Game Preview: Edgewood Red Wolves vs. Space Coast Vipers

Two dominant guards in Janae Mcfall and Phillayjah Carroll are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Edgewood Red Wolves will take on the Space Coast Vipers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Edgewood will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up 25 points on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Merritt Island on Thursday. Edgewood simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Merritt Island 55-23. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Red Wolves' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Edgewood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Da'Varriea Robertson out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mcfall, who went 8 of 20 on her way to 19 points and five steals.

Edgewood was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, Space Coast waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They breezed by the Minutemen to the tune of 50-22. Given the Vipers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 180th, while the Minutemen are ranked 468th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Space Coast found their leader in freshman Zanya Smith, who went 5 of 7 en route to 10 points along with six boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Nakayla Smith, who posted six points and three steals.

Space Coast has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for Edgewood, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.

Edgewood was able to grind out a solid win over Space Coast in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 50-41. Does Edgewood have another victory up their sleeve, or will Space Coast turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
