Baseball Recap: Head-Royce Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

There's no place like home for Head-Royce, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They blew past the College Prep Cougars 11-1 on Thursday. That looming 11-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Jayhawks yet this season.

Mikael Akpala made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Graham Sanger, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Ezra Goldfarb was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.

Head-Royce always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Head-Royce's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for College Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Looking ahead, Head-Royce is taking a road trip to square off against San Leandro at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. San Leandro's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Head-Royce's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for College Prep, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 12-5 defeat against St. Joseph Notre Dame on the 28th.
