Basketball Recap: Torrington Comes Up Short

Torrington and Burns squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Torrington had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Broncs by a score of 49-47. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Broncs this season, with their most recent loss being a 56-43 defeat last Thursday.

When it comes to explaining why Torrington lost, don't look at Natalie Long. Despite the final result, she shot 44% from the field en route to 19 points. The game was Long's third in a row with at least 15 points. Kadence Schamel was another key player, putting up seven points and seven steals.

Burns' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josie Barrett led the charge by going 7-for-14 to rack up 16 points. Barrett has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jencie Franzen, who shot 56% from the field on her way to 14 points and eight boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Torrington and nudges their season record down to 9-9. As for Burns, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-12.

Torrington has already played their next contest, a 48-41 win against Rawlins on the 6th. As for Burns, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-29 defeat against Wheatland on the 6th.
