Recap: Collegiate Cougars vs. Monacan Chiefs
The Collegiate Cougars struggled with offensive rebounds on Thursday (the Monacan Chiefs had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Collegiate took a 49-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Monacan. Collegiate has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Collegiate lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Clare Aman, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds. Aman scored a full 27.8% of Collegiate's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Craig, who scored nine points.
Monacan was led to victory by Lila Donnelly and Trinity Jones. Donnelly scored 11 points, while Jones scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Zofia Enriquez, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Collegiate's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Monacan, they pushed their record up to 6-3 with that victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Collegiate will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Henrico at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Monacan will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Glen Allen at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Glen Allen will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
