Baseball Recap: Grapeland Gets the Win

While Grapeland's victory against Latexo wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Sandies won by a run and slipped past the Tigers 9-8.

Edy Lopez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Grapeland is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Lopez was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Diego Fajardo, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Grapeland's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Cash Huff also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Grapeland's record is now 4-5. As for Latexo, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

Coincidentally, Grapeland and Latexo will both be playing Centerville the next time they take the field. The Tigers will host the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Sandies will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on April 7.
