Softball Recap: Howell Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Howell came out on top against Fowlerville on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run fourth inning. The Highlanders' pitcher stepped up to hand the Gladiators a 17-0 shutout. The Highlanders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Gianna Gentile made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Clem Stevens was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Lara Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Howell hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Howell's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Fowlerville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Howell will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Gladiators: the pair will be back at it again later today.
