Football Recap: Gila Ridge Falls to Lake Havasu in First Game of Season

Gila Ridge kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 21-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lake Havasu Knights. Despite 64 more yards than the Knights, the Hawks couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Although Gila Ridge took the loss, they still got scores from Kanai Hongo and Gabriel Cota.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 3.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Drake Phillips for the heroic effort on defense: he. Gila Ridge didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.8.

Gila Ridge's defense didn't let Tripp Burke., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Lake Havasu's QB won't forget Drew Caudle anytime soon given he sacked him twice.

Burke looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 164 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 36 yards.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gila Ridge will host Greenway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lake Havasu, they will be playing at home against Mohave at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
