The Mission Bay Buccaneers will venture away from home to challenge the Canyon Hills Rattlers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Canyon Hills took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mission Bay, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Mission Bay turned things around against Mira Mesa on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Marauders by a score of 3-1. The game was the first time the Buccaneers have beaten the Marauders on their court since February 26, 2022.
Mission Bay had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 26-24.

Mission Bay's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Zeth Abelman, who had 32 digs and five assists, and Henry Gildehaus, who had 19 assists and seven digs. Abelman is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 14 or more in each of the last five games he's played. Jack Taylor also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.
Meanwhile, Canyon Hills was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against University City, falling 3-0.
Canyon Hills was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-22, 25-18.
Mission Bay picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 9-6. As for Canyon Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.
Mission Bay was able to grind out a solid win over Canyon Hills in their previous matchup back in March, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buccaneers since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
