Softball Recap: Johnston City Has No Trouble Against Murphysboro

Johnston City barely beat Murphysboro the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Indians put the hurt on the Red Devils with a sharp 9-2 victory on Wednesday. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Red Devils recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Zoee Cullum and Lilli Armes did most of the damage at the plate: Cullum went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Armes went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four hits gave Cullum a new career-high. Makenzie Mowery was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Johnston City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Murphysboro only posted a batting average of .192.

Johnston City's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Murphysboro, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.

Johnston City wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 13-11 victory against Vienna on the 17th. As for Murphysboro, they are taking a road trip to face off against Herrin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
