Basketball Recap: Marquette Gets the Win

Marquette hadn't done well against Kirkwood recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Marquette Mustangs escaped with a win against the Kirkwood Pioneers by the margin of a single free throw, 58-57. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Pioneers are ranked 268th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Marquette's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Kirkwood, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Marquette will challenge Howell at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Kirkwood, they will venture away from home to square off against St. Dominic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Dominic will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Kirkwood surely won't give up without a fight.
