Football Game Preview: Yankton Bucks/Gazelles vs. Mitchell Kernels

The Yankton Bucks/Gazelles will head out to face off against the Mitchell Kernels at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Yankton will be strutting in after a victory while Mitchell will be coming in after a defeat.

Yankton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Dakota's top teams: Tea, who was ranked 17th at the time (Yankton was ranked seventh). The Bucks/Gazelles put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 31-7 win on Friday. The Bucks/Gazelles have beaten the Titans the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Titans has come to flipping the script.

Meanwhile, Mitchell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They lost 27-3 to Huron. The Kernels were down 24-0 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Yankton's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Mitchell, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Everything came up roses for Yankton against Mitchell in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured an 80-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bucks/Gazelles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
