Preview: North Salinas Vikings vs. Monte Vista Christian Mustangs
The North Salinas Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
North Salinas came into Wednesday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They managed a 60-54 win over King City on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Monte Vista Christian had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 74-53 margin over Gonzales. Monte Vista Christian has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 21 points or more this season.
North Salinas' win bumped their record up to 7-13. As for Monte Vista Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.
Things could have been worse for North Salinas, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 60-45 loss to the Mustangs in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Monte Vista Christian's Bryce Brogan, who scored 28 points.
