Football Game Preview: MacArthur Generals vs. Westfield Mustangs

MacArthur is 0-9 against Westfield since October of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Generals will host the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m.

On Friday, MacArthur and Spring were almost perfectly matched up, but MacArthur suffered a 19-18 loss. The Generals gained 114 more yards on the day, but it was the Lions that made the best use of them.

Despite the defeat, MacArthur saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Trinidad Espinoza rushed for 68 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westfield). They took their matchup on Thursday with ease, bagging a 58-0 victory over Aldine. The win was familiar territory for Westfield, who have now won four games in a row.

Westfield's win came from a few key players MacArthur will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was JaDarius Amos, who threw for 122 yards and three TDs on perfect 5-for-5 passing. Westfield's leading receiver Emmanuel Yancy was Amos' top target yet again, picking up 77 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Westfield's run defense was locked in: Aldine could only muster 1.1 yards per carry. Westfield didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.7.

Westfield now has a winning record of 4-3. As for MacArthur, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
