Baseball Recap: Methuen Victorious

While Methuen's victory against Lowell wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rangers narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Red Raiders 5-3.

Julius Soto spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed two walks, which is notable because Methuen is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Alexander Santiago was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kevin Nestor, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Methuen's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Lowell, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Methuen will head out to take on Billerica Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lowell, they will venture away from home to face off against Chelmsford at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Red Raiders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
