Basketball Recap: Global Concepts Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

While Global Concepts didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They greeted the New Year with with a 54-37 victory over the Western New York Maritime Charter Commodores. Given the Gators' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while the Commodores are ranked 635th), the result on Monday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Duane Fears had a dynamite game for Global Concepts, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Eric Davis was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards.

Global Concepts' win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Western New York Maritime Charter, they dropped their record down to 0-7 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Global Concepts will host Cleveland Hill at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Global Concepts is facing Cleveland Hill at the right time seeing as Cleveland Hill is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Western New York Maritime Charter, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Burgard at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
