Volleyball Recap: Waunakee Falls Short Against Ranked Pewaukee

Waunakee faced Pewaukee in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Warriors fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 2-1. The Warriors have struggled against the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Lauren Sprague paced Waunakee's offense, picking up 11 kills. Sprague got some help from Lauren Van Wie and her 14 assists. Sprague was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Pewaukee was led to victory by Kiley Eske and Lucy May. Eske had 19 digs and three aces, while May had 16 assists and three digs. That's the most assists May has posted since back in October of 2024. Alyssa Gray also deserves some recognition as she had her first digs of the season.

Waunakee's defeat dropped their record down to 24-6. As for Pewaukee, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.

Waunakee has already played their next match, a 2-1 victory against Brookfield East on the 27th. As for Pewaukee, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 loss against Arrowhead on the 27th.
