Sargent falls despite big games from Kandace Pargin and Bailey Asbell

Recap: Sargent Farmers vs. Merino Rams

The Sargent Farmers and the Merino Rams squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but sadly the Sargent Farmers had to settle for second. They had to suffer through a rough 80-33 loss at the hands of the Rams. While losing is never fun, Sargent can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Merino is ranked fifth).

Sargent's loss came despite strong showings from Bailey Asbell and Kandace Pargin. Asbell scored nine points along with four steals, while Pargin scored ten points along with six rebounds. Asbell has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last seven times she's played.

Merino found their leader in underclassman Kya Piel, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 assists. Piel hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Sutter, who scored 12 points.

Sargent's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Merino, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 24-0.

Sargent does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Merino is on the road again on Thursday and plays Mancos at 7:00 p.m. on March 7th. Mancos will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Merino surely won't give up without a fight.
