Basketball Recap: Ridgeland Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Columbus

On Friday, Ridgeland faced Columbus in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Ridgeland Titans fell 67-57 to the Columbus Falcons. The Titans' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Ridgeland lost, don't look at Phil Nelson. Despite the final result, he went 13 of 23 en route to 31 points and eight boards. Nelson's evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Manuel, who posted 12 points.

Ridgeland's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-4. As for Columbus, they pushed their record up to 17-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Ridgeland has already played their next matchup (against Biloxi), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Columbus will venture away from home to face off against Vicksburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Columbus knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Vicksburg likes a good challenge.
