Softball Recap: Mount Vernon Snags 13th Win in Last 14 Games

Winnsboro typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Mount Vernon proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 14-1 win. Considering the Tigers have won 17 games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Mount Vernon let Kajmiere Foster and Olivia Baird run wild. Foster went 4-for-5 with one home run, two triples, and three runs, while Baird got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those two triples gave Foster a new career-high. Haley Danielson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Mount Vernon is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Winnsboro, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mount Vernon will square off against Blue Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Winnsboro, they will take on Gunter at 7:00 p.m. on the 25th. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Raiders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
