Preview: Dunnellon Tigers vs. Lake Weir Hurricanes

Dunnellon and Lake Weir are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Dunnellon Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Lake Weir Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Dunnellon is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.

On Monday, Dunnellon was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 42-41 to Bradford. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Dunnellon has scored all season.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Tatiana Matthews, who scored 15 points along with three steals and three blocks. Matthews is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Shamyra Reid, who scored six points along with 16 rebounds.

Dunnellon struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Lake Weir, who are still winless after their 12th contest. They were beaten by Umatilla 67-20 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Lake Weir can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 585th, while Umatilla is ranked 159th).

Dunnellon's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-3. As for Lake Weir, their loss dropped their record down to 0-12.

Dunnellon beat Lake Weir 74-67 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Will Dunnellon repeat their success, or does Lake Weir have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
