While Colorado Springs Christian's win against Sierra wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lions sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-11 victory over the Stallions on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since April 29, 2024.
Austin Leigh was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Colorado Springs Christian got a massive performance out of Jace Velasquez, who scored three runs and stole six bases while going 3-for-4. Those six stolen bases gave Velasquez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Britton Thompson, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Florence came up short against Crowley County on Wednesday, falling 16-1. The Huskies have struggled against the Chargers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
Florence's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Colorado Springs Christian, their record is now 2-3.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Colorado Springs Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .485. However, it's not like Florence struggles in that department as they've averaged .630. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
